There is no cost to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated and will benefit repairs to this nearly 200-year-old home. Admire our new cedar roof and imagine the great improvements that we can accomplish with your support.

The home was built in 1838 by John Shastid, making it one of the oldest standing homes in Pittsfield. The Shastid family had formerly lived near Salem (now known as Lincoln's New Salem) northwest of Springfield. Here, John and his family became good friends with future president Abraham Lincoln, and he would visit their new Pittsfield home multiple times during the 1840s and 1850s. Pike County is unique for its high number of Lincoln connections that were personal friendships rather than political acquaintances.

The Shastid House is on the National Register of Historic Places and underwent an extensive restoration in the early 2000s. Historic buildings of all shapes and sizes need constant love and attention so we earnestly ask for your support in this next round of restoration of the house that Congressman Paul Findley affectionately named Pittsfield's Precious Heirloom.
